- These are formed by strong heating graphite in an electric arc, in presence of inert gases like He or Ar.
❤. properties of Fullerence ❤
- In fullerence , the carbon undergoes sp2 hybridisation.
- C60 molecule has a shape like soccer ball and called "Bukminster Fullerence".
- The spherical fullerence are called bucky ball in short.
- It contains 20 six membered rings and 12 five membered rings.
- A six membered ring fused with six or five membered ring .
- But five membered ring can only fuse with six membered rings.
- Ball shaped fullerence has 60 vertices and each one is occupied by one carbon atom and it is also contains both single and double bonds.
