There are two types of buffer solutions, (i) Solutions of single substances: The solutionof the salt of a weak acid and a weak base. (ii) Solutions of Mixtures: These are further of two types, (a) Acidic buffer : It is the solutionof a mixture of a weak acid and a salt of this weak acid with a strong base.

A solution of constant pH which resists the charge in pH when a small quantity of a strong acid or strong base is added to it is called a buffer solution.

Types :-
1.Acidic buffers
They contain a mixture of weak acid and it's salt with a base.
Eg: Acetic acid and sodium acetate.

2.Basic Buffers:
They contain mixture of a weak base and it's salt with a strong acid.
Eg: Ammonium hydroxide and ammonium chloride.

3. Neutral Buffer:
A single salt solution having reserve acidity and alkalinity in same molecule.
4.Salt Buffers:
These contain a mixture of an acid salt and a normal salt of pleasing acid
