There are two types of buffer solutions, (i) Solutions of single substances: The solutionof the salt of a weak acid and a weak base. (ii) Solutions of Mixtures: These are further of two types, (a) Acidic buffer : It is the solutionof a mixture of a weak acid and a salt of this weak acid with a strong base.

They contain a mixture of weak acid and it's salt with a base.

Eg: Acetic acid and sodium acetate.

2.Basic Buffers:

They contain mixture of a weak base and it's salt with a strong acid.

Eg: Ammonium hydroxide and ammonium chloride.

3. Neutral Buffer:

A single salt solution having reserve acidity and alkalinity in same molecule.
