Explanation:

Take a magnesium ribbon and burn it .

It burns with a dazzling white light.

The chemical reaction of this is as follows ;:-

2Mg + O2 ---> 2MgO known as magnesium oxide.

Dissolve it on water.

It forms :-

MgO + H2O ----> Mg(OH)2 known as magnesium hydroxide (milk of magnesia).

Tak e a litmus paper test.

Since Mg(OH)2 is a basic oxide it converts red litmus paper to blue.

So in this way metal oxides are basic in nature.
