Carbon is a non- metallic element. The symbol of carbon is "C" and its atomic number is 6.It shows a valence of4,or each carbon atom forms four bonds with other atoms.

Carbon forms a very large number of compounds. It forms the second largest number of compounds, next to hydrogen. The compounds of carbon are called organic compounds.

◾ OCCURANCE OF CARBON:

Carbon exists as metal carbonates, metal carbides and oxides of carbon. Carbon is present as carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. It also exists in the form of organic compounds in wood, coal, petroleum and natural gas.

◾ CARBON CYCLE :

There is a continuous exchange of carbon between living and non-living systems through a series of processes occurring in a cyclic manner. this is known as carbon cycle.

>>> Plants utilise carbon dioxide present in air for photosynthesis to prepare food. Plants and the Plants product are consumed by herbivorous animals which are then eaten by carnivorous. Carbon dioxide is returned to the atmosphere by different processes like respiration , burning of fossil fuels , volcanic eruptions etc.

heya..

Here is your answer...

CARBON:

Carbon is a chemical element.

Symbol - C

Atomic number - 6

Carbon is the sixth element in the periodic table. Located between boron (B) and nitrogen (N), it is a very stable element.

Because it is stable, it can be found both by itself and in many naturally occurring compounds.

Scientists describe the three states of carbon as diamond, amorphous, and graphite.

It may help you...☺☺
