Carbylamine reaction: Aliphatic/aromatic primary amines are heated with chloroform/alcoholic KOH to form foul-smelling alkyl isocyanides or carbylamines. This test is not given by secondary/tertiary amines. For example, ethylamine gives ethyl isocyanide
