Answer:

Carius method also known as the Carius halogen method, is a method used in analytical chemistry to determine the quantity of halogen in chemical substances.

In this method, the Carius tube which is made up of hard glass is used to heat a mass of the organic compound with fuming nitric acid in the presence of silver nitrate. The carbon and hydrogen in the organic compound are oxidized to carbon dioxide and water. The halogen in the organic compound reacts with silver nitrate to form silver halide. This silver halide is filtered, washed, dried and measured to find the quantity of the halogen present in the organic compound.
