Riverine island is formed because of the deposition of mud and rocks in the river bed. River Brahmaputra while flowing across the north and northeastern part of the country is involved in depositional work. In the lower course, the speed of the river decreases leading to the formation of riverine islands.

Solution :-

This question is based on the causes of formation of riverine Island. Actually there are several reasons for it. Before preceeding to know more answer, firstly we need to understand that what is Rierine Island.

Riverine Island : A riverine Island is the a type of island form on a river due to excess deposition of soil, silt and mud. This initially takes a place and thus forms a base in river and seems like a piece of land on the river.

Causes of formation of riverine Island ::

>> Excess Deposition of mud : Actually mud is the substances which gets accumulated in water when it is wet and when it is for the long time in the water, then it can solidify hard. When the rivers contain exess mud or silt, they deposit it at a place. Now that place becomes junction for the deposition for other times since when the river water with mud comes, the mud get stuck between that initial mud and forms a large mass. Constant accumulation of such type leads to formation of a piece of land from the river bed and whose surface is out of water. Then these mud gets solidify and attached and thus forms a piece of larger land. This eventually turns like an Island.

>> Huge rocks getting accumulated : Like the process above, this is a similar process too. Actually huge masses of rock come with river water and settle over the river. Then when other small rocks come they struck in between. When these mud and soil particles come and get attached between rocks, they hold the rocks together by forming a bond between them. They hold them together and this bod gets stronger by time. Thus there is an eventual formation of a piece of land.

>> Presence of Mangroves : Have you heard of mangrove trees ? These are the trees with longer and stronger roots. These trees are formed innthe marshy regions. When these masses of small rocks and mud come together, thet get supplied by enough water. Then there is formation of grasses and mangroves since there seeds come there by insects, birds and river water. When these grow, roots of these growths hold the rocks and mud particles together. And thus there is a piece of land formed by end to end joining of rocks and muds for a long time.
