The cell was firstly discovered by Robert Hooke in 1665 .And He observed in microscope that the slices of cork is the part in the bark of the tree Hooke made this chance observation through a self - designed microscope in 1665 . He called it these boxes as cells. which means the little room in Latin The first cell theory is credited to the work of the Theoder Schewaan and Mattias Jakob Schleiden in 1880 .He saw the cork slice with the help of premetive microscope.
