CELL THEORY

Cell Theory was proposed by two scientists named
# Schleiden in 1838
# Schwann in 1839

Cell theory says that all the animals and plants are made up of cell and cell is the simplest unit of life.

Main points of Cell theory are

★ Cell is the smallest unit of life
★ All livings are made up of cell or cells
★ Shape and size of cells are varies according to the organism
★ All living cells have some basic and common character i.e. respiration, growth, metabolism etc.
★ Cell is produced from a pre-existing cell.

Two Germans M.J. Schleiden (Botanist in 1838) and Theodor Schwann (Zoologist in 1839) collectively formulated the cell theory.

And in 1855 a German physiologist, Rudolf Virchow proposed this.

He gave the phrase : "Omnis-cellula-e-cellula".

This phrase means- All cells arise from pre existing cells .

Cell theory features :

• Cell is the basic unit of structure of plants and animals both.

• It is the basic unit of function as well as the metabolic reactions take place inside the cell.
