All about connective tissues :

• Connective tissue is one of the tissue that is abundant in the body.

• It finds its role in protecting and supporting the body organs.

There are six major categories of mature connective tissue:

Liquid connective tissue that includes

Blood has role in phagocytosis (WBC's), transport of oxygen (RBC's)

lymph helps in transfer of materials from blood to cells.

Dense connective tissue that includes dense irregular, dense regular and elastic connective tissue. It provides strength and elasticity to various organs.

Cartilage that includes hyaline cartilage, fibrocartilage and elastic cartilage. It provides flexibility and support, helps in maintaining the shape.

Bone tissue has role in providing support and protection.

Loose connective tissue which includes

i) Areolar tissue provides strength and support.

ii) Adipose tissue prevents heat loss thereby helps in maintaining body temperature.

iii) Reticular tissue forms supporting network of organs, removes worn out cells in spleen.
