explain cutting and layering
Answers
I.) In case of cutting, you cut a small piece of the vegetatitvely propagative part of a plant and bury it under moist soil, letting it give rise to a new plant.
II.) In case of layering, you bend a branch of the plant and bury it into the ground, leaving the tip exposed.
III.) In case of grafting, you cut a desirable shoot(scion) of one plant and attach it to your desirable root(stock) in such a way that the two join and give rise to a new plant. It should be taken into consideration that the stock and scion are cut in a slanting manner and the grad is covered with a polythene sheet so as to prevent infection via bacteria, virus, etc.
Dear student,
Cutting is the process in which a small part of the stem of a plant is cut and is buried in the soil. Soon, roots and shoots starts developing and the ‘cutting’ develops into a full plant.
Layering is the process in which the branches of the plant are pulled towards the ground and is buried in the soil leaving tip of the branch exposed (pls note that the branches ,at beginning, are attached to the plant). Soon roots starts developing from the buried branch. Then the branch is cut from the plant and the branch grows as an independent plant.
