QUESTION◇ :- Explain decay and putrefaction of bacteria.

___________________________________________________________________

ANSWER ◇ :-

1) DECAY

Decay is a life process, which is essential to digest food and recycle materials. Bacteria and fungi are the main groups of decomposer. They release enzymes to break down compounds, so that they can absorb the nutrients.

Factors affecting decay :-

Temperature - High temperatures destroy enzymes and proteins, killing the organisms responsible for decay. Low temperatures slow the rate of reaction of enzymes and will prevent growth and reproduction.

Oxygen - Lack of oxygen will slow or prevent most forms of decay. Oxygen is needed for respiration by organisms. Some bacteria can survive without oxygen, such as those used in biogas generators.

Water - Lack of water will slow or prevent decay .Water is needed for transport and to support reactions inside .

2) PUTREFACTION

#Putrefaction involves the decomposition of proteins, breakdown of cohesiveness between the tissues, and liquefaction of most organs.

The body is decomposed by the action of putrefying bacteria and fungi which releases certain gases that infiltrate and deteriorates the body tissues and organs. Putrefying bacteria play a major role in recycling nitrogen from the dead organism.

Process :-

All the organic tissues are composed of chemical energy. When it is not maintained by the constant biochemical maintenance, it begins to hydrolyse. The anaerobic bacteria in the digestive tract of humans start digesting the proteins of the body. This weakens the tissues of the body. With the further breakdown of proteins, certain gases and organic compounds are excreted by the bacteria which emit a foul smell that of the rotten flesh.

Factors Affecting Putrefaction:-

● Environment

● Moisture

● Light

● Age

● Body Condition

● Cause of Death
