Explain defence against microbes.
The first line of defence is non-specific and aims to stop microbes from entering the body.
The skin and mucous membranes act as a physical barrier preventing penetration by microbes.
If the skin is cut then the blood produces a clot which seals the wound and prevents microbes from entering.

Natural barriers and the immune system defend the body against organisms that can cause infection. (See also Lines of Defense.) Natural barriers include the skin, mucous membranes, tears, earwax, mucus, and stomach acid. Also, the normal flow of urine washes out microorganisms that enter the urinary tract.
