GENETIC VARIATION
It is the naturally occurring genetic differences occurring in SAME species. You may have read that sexual reproduction causes variations. It’s because of a stage of meiosis occurring in their gametes. Note that it’s not the only way for genetic variation to occur.
E.g. The large range of human skin colour is due to genetic variation.

DIVERSITY
It’s simply number of types of species present in an area and their relative abundance.
E.g. Species diversity in the 2nd image attached is 3
How variability leads to diversity?
It is cleared from above discussion that genetic variations in a species causes differences among them. If that differences causes them to behave very much differently then they’re assigned as new species. In case of human we don’t consider people of different looks as different species because there is so much common between them. They CAN breed themselves.
