simple manometer is consisted of only one liquid it never gives the negative pressure reading but in differential manometer two liquids are used and pressure difference of two different liquids can be measured conveniently also it is advanced from any other manometer for its feasibility. fluid soflo vapour pressure and high density (for example Mercury)requires a short you whether fluids like water would require a very long tube to measure the pressure head so in laboratory or practical purpose in engineering differential manometer is used in general.
