Explain different types of catalyst.
Answers
Answer:
Catalysts and their associated catalytic reactions come in three main types: homogeneous catalysts, heterogeneous catalysts and biocatalysts (usually called enzymes). Less common but still important types of catalyst activities include photocatalysis, environmental catalysis and green catalytic processes.
Explanation:
TYPES AND CHARACTERISTIC OF CATALYSTS :
(A) POSITIVE CATALYST : When a catalyst accelerates the rate of a reaction then it is called a positive catalyst. For example, the rate of decomposition of hydrogen peroxide gets increased in the presence of Manganese dioxide.
(B) NEGATIVE CATALYST : When a catalyst retards or decreases the rate of a reaction then it is called a negative catalyst. For example, Phosphoric acid retards the rate of decomposition of hydrogen peroxide.
