Our natural resources and biodiversity give us benefits we call "Ecosystem Services". Plants for instance provide us the following services and benefits for free:
- As producers in the food chain/food web, plants provide almost all consumers on earth with food.
- They also give us timber, fiber, medicines, shed, inspiration for arts and recreation, etc.
- They absorb water from the soil and prevent flood and erosion.
- And most importantly, plants give us the air that we breathe called oxygen and help regulate air pollution by absorbing the carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
