Direct Speech is quoting in exact words what someone else has said. The words are within quotation marks.
Example. She said, "I am going to the market".
Indirect or Reported Speech is a secondhand account of what has been spoken by someone else. It does not use quotation marks. Besides that, usually while reporting an action in indirect speech, the tense of the words are changed because in this form, we usually talk about a time in the past.
Example. She said that she was going to the market.
