if white light is passed through a prism , it splits into different colours. This is called dispersion of light.
Rainbow is formed due to dispersion of white light of sun by the rain drops which behave like small prisms.

Hope it helps u.

Heya mate....

___FORMATION OF RAINBOW___
1)Sunlight passes through the raindrops.
2)Some of the sunlight is reflected and some part is refrected.
3)Through a window glass light reflects as well as refrects. We can observe the objects through glass due to reflection.
4) Refracted light, while passing through the light split into its components and appears as rainbow.
