Answer:

In displacement reaction, one element displaces another from its compound and takes it's place therein.

Example of displacement reaction is Na displaces Mg as Na is more reactive than Mg.

The displacement of hydrogen from water by metal-

2K(s)+2H2O(l) ------- 2KOH(aq)+H2(g)

Answer:

Displacement reaction: The chemical reaction in which place of ions of a less reactive element is taken by high reactive element by the formation of its own ions is called a displacement reaction.

Both metals and non-metals take part in displacement reactions.

Iron displacing copper in Copper Sulphate solution to form Iron Sulphate is one most common examples.

CuSO_{4} (aq) +Fe (s) \rightarrow FeSO_{4} (aq) +Cu(s)

This happens because iron has a higher tendency to oxidize than copper. When iron displaces the copper, it loses 2 electrons and gains an oxidation state of +2.
