In a displacement reaction more reactive element displaces a less reactive element to form a compound. displacement reaction can be seen in metals and non-metals both. Examples: Zinc displaces iron ions from iron sulphate solution. nickle displaces copper from copper nitrate solution.

The type of reaction in which part of one reactant is displaced by another reactant is called displacement reaction. It is also called a  replacement reaction. . 

Example – Fe + CuSO4+ FeSO4 + Cu

There are two types of displacement reactions –

  • Single displacement reaction 
  • Double displacement reaction
