In displacement reaction a more reactive element displaces less reactive element, and it is irreversible.
Example :Fe + CuSO4= FeSO4 + Cu.
In this displacement reaction iron displaces copper from copper sulphate solution and changes into blue colour.

Displacement reactions are those in which a more elctropositive metal displaces another one from its compound.
eg: Zn + CuSO4 ----------> ZnSO4 + Cu
Here Zinc displaces copper from its aqueous Copper sulphate solution.
NOTE: It need not be a metal always!
eg: Cl2 + 2 HBr ---------> 2 HCl + Br2
Here, the more electronegative chlorine displaces bromine from HBr solution.
