Graphs of motion. The gradient of a displacement-time graph at a particular time gives the velocity of the object at that time. The gradient of a velocity-time graph at a particular time gives the acceleration of the object at that time.

If an object goes back to where is started in certain time, then its displacement is zero. Its displacement would be the total length of the journey. A displacement time graph is able to show if an object is going backwards or forwards. usually a line with a negative gradient would indicate motion going backwards.
