The atomic number of Beryllium is 4
It's electronic configuration is 1s2 2s2
Generally the second shell contains 2s and 2p orbitals such that the total number of electrons in 2nd shell is 8.
But in case of Beryllium, only 2 electrons are filled in the 2nd shell
Therefore it has divalency.
