Explain each of the following:
a) Glass wool is a good insulator.
b) An aluminium window frame feels colder than a plastic window frame when you touch it.

a) Glass wool has a number of properties which should make it desirable as a heat insulator. It is light, is proof against fire and dampness, chemicals, rodents, etc., will stand high temperatures, will not decay or deteriorate with use and has low specific heat.

b) Aluminium is a metal (as metals are good conductors of heat) aluminium conducts heat readily as well as release heat readily compared to wood which is a bad conductor of heat as it takes long time to get heated up as well as long time to release heat. Hence aluminium window frame feel colder to touch than a wooden frame.
