Explain effect of pressure on liquification of gas

So, when pressure increases volume decreases... When in a limited vessel a certain pressure is applied on a gas which is required to change to state of the gas from, gaseous to liquid state. At that time the intermolecular spaces in between molecules reduces and hence the gas changes its state to liquid
