Answer:

Electrical properties of solids are measured in terms of conductivity. Conductivity may be defined as the ease with which electric current can pass through a given substance. All solids do not conduct electricity in equal amounts.

hope it will help you ✌️

Required Answer:-

Metals are predominantly solids. Very less non-metals exist in soild form. We know that, we use these metals in solid form while making wires and electrical appliances.

With reference to these soilds and metals:

  • Soild is the form of matter where the atoms are closely packed.
  • The outermost cells of these atoms overlap with each other. Hence, the electrons become free and remain in disassociated form.
  • These are the free electrons.
  • They roam around without any fixed direction.
  • Once we connect a power supply, a drift speed is created within them which makes them move in a particular direction.
  • In this way, electricity is conducted within the solid.

Why not ions?

Ions is formed by the diasscociation of ionic compounds when they are in molten or liquid state. But in solids, only electrons are available for electrical conduction.
