Electrolytic refining process

The process of refining a metal by electrolysis is known as electrolytic refining . For electrolytic refining we usually follow a general steps -

• A thick block of the impure metal to be refine is made the anode .
• A pure thin strip of the metal to be refine is made the cathode .

• A water soluble salt is made the electrolyte .
