It is a process through which Hydrogen and oxygen are segregated from each other by passing electricity through them and thus it is also reffered to as electrolytic decomposition . This phenomena us carried out using an acidulated water for e.g H2SO4 and then by immersing anode and cathode by drilling two holes into the electrode(plastic mug could act like that) and an electrical lamp could verify the phenomena....hope you understand....
