End on position means point is on the axis of dipole and broad side on position means point is on the perpendicular bisector.

Explanation:

End on position:

  • A point on a magnet's magnetic axis is said to be at this position. The magnetic axis, or the axis connecting the poles of a magnetised body, is the straight line connecting the two poles of a magnet, specifically the axis connecting the earth's magnetic poles.
  • It's also the bar magnet's centre line, which crosses both poles when torque is applied.

Broad side on position:

  • The position of a point perpendicular to the magnetic axis that passes through the centre of a magnet. Gauss B position is another name for it.
  • The region at each end of a magnet where the external magnetic field is strongest is known as a magnetic pole. A bar magnet suspended in the magnetic field of the Earth orients itself north–south.
