It was first observed and named by Porter in 1945 . Endoplasmic reticulum is well developed in metabolically active eukaryotic cells onvolved in the synthesis of proteins and hormones such as those of liver and pansreas. I'll is absent in prokaryotic cell.
Function,
Smooth endoplasmic reticulum is the site of lipid synthesis , carbohydrate metabolism and detoxification of drugs . Rough endoplasmic reticulum is the site of synthesis and transport of proteins.
