{\underline{\underline{ \bold{potential \: energy}}}}

When a rubber band is stretched, it tends to recover its original length, on account of elasticity. The force trying to bring the rubber band to its original configuration is called restoring force.

A definite amount of work done has to be done against the restoring force in stretching the rubber band. This work done is stored in the rubber band in the form of elastic potential energy of the rubber band.

 {\underline{\underline{\bold{units \: of \: potential \: energy \: is \: joule}}}}

Any form of energy is measured using same units. In SI units energy is measured in Joules.

Thus, SI unit of potential energy is Joules.
