Population is defined as the number of individuals of a species at a particular time interval. During the past few decades, population has increased exponentially and the explosion in population cause severe damages to the environment.

Explanation:

These damages or environmental problems are as follows:

1. Over-exploitation of natural resources: Population burst has caused inevitable use of natural resources which has caused the worst impact on the environment.

2. The over population caused global warming which is the worst scenario due to which the earth temperature is rising continuously and the glaciers are melting very fast which has increased the water level. And due to this, several islands have been sub-merged under water.

3. Increase in population has also caused deforestation due to which soil erosion has occurred at several places and gases imbalance has occurred.

4. Population burst is a major reason for various types of pollution like water, soil, air and noise pollution.

Hence, population explosion is the main reason of environmental destruction.
