Answer:
Adenosine deaminase (ADA) deficiency is a genetic disorder. In this disease, the gene coding for the enzyme ADA gets deleted leading to deficiency of ADA abd problems in immune system. Adenosine deaminase (ADA) deficiency in patients can be treated by gene replacement therapy or enzyme replacement therapy. On this treatment patients are regularly injected with the functional ADA enzyme.
Disadvantages of this procedure :
- It does not completely eradicate the disease.
- requirement of repeated doses of the enzyme makes it expensive.
