Epithelial tissues are the lining and covering tissues of our body. The cells in this tissue are compactly packed and have less intercellular matrix.

Epithelial tissue are further Classified into:-

  • 1. Simple Epithelial tissue

  • 2. Compound Epithelial tissue

1. Simple Epithelial:- These are the type of Epithelial tissue which are made of single layer of cells. This type of tissue contains irregular boundaries. Simple epithelium is further classified as squamous, columnar, cuboidal, cilliated.

  • Location:- Walls of blood cappilaries , alveoli of lungs (helps in diffusion of gases ).

2. Compound epithelium:- This type of Epithelial tissue is consists of multilayered cells. And plays a major role in the absorption, secretion and protection against any kind of chemical and physical stress. It is also further classified as stratified and non stratified epithelium.

  • Location:- Lining of buccal cavity ,on the dry skin surface and pharynx.
