Due to excessive use of fertilizers in the modern farming practices, phosphate and various other harmful compounds pollute the water. As a result of the increasing level of phosphate , the colour of the water changes . This is known as eutrophication . As a result of this sometimes the water changes into red, green etc. depending on the compound .
