Eutrophication is the natural aging the lake by nutrient enrichment of its water. With time, streams draining into lakes introduce nutrients as nitrogen and Phosphorus, which promote the growth of aquatic organisms. As the lake's fertility increases, plant and animal life burgeons and organic matter starts depositing on lake bottom. Eventually, the lake gives way to large floating plants finally converting to land.
