Eutrophication is when there is excessive amounts of nutrients in water. For example when fertilizers are used the water reaches the lakes and ponds and there live many algae which feed on such nutrients and use up a lot of oxygen because their quantity increases, this creating a lack of oxygen in the lake/pond which kills lots of aquatic animals living there.

Eutrophication is the disruption in the normal aquatic ecosystem due to growth of weeds that block oxygen and sunlight. It is a process of large scale death of aquatic plants and animals.

It may occur due to the excess growth of algae in ponds, leading to blockage of oxygen and sunlight. This excess growth of algae is known as algal bloom.
