Exponents is most likely a number which has a power like 2^2,3^2,etc. so like this if we want to simplify a set of these type of numbers we must know the laws of indices. They are: a^m*a^n=a^m+n,a^m/a^n=a^m-n,a^0=1,(a/b)^m=a^m/b^m,(a^m)^n=a^m*n,a^-1=1/a. So hope you will understand the concept and you will be able to solve the exponents chapter with ease once you are clear with these formulas.

For any rational number suppose 'a' and a positive integer suppose 'n', we define as a^n =a*a*a*a*.............*a(n times) a^n is called the nth power of 'a' and is also read as 'a raised to the power of n'.
the rational number 'a' is called the base and 'n' is called the exponent or power or index
