Population Growth:

The main reasons for the rapid growth of population are a) high birth rate and b) relatively lower dealth rate.c) migration. Migration has no impact on population of India.

Causes for Lower dealth rate:

a) Eradication of Famines: The recurrence of Famines was the major cause for the lower dealth rate.

b) Control of Epidemics: The malaria and small pox were the major Epidemics which resulted in many dealths. But now the epedimics are under control.

c) Other factors: Other factors like pure drinking water, increase in the standard of livings, medical facilities etc resulted in the lower dealths.

Causes of High Birth rate:

a) Predominace of Agriculture: In agragarian societies, the children were never considered as burden. As, the agricultural activities required more labourers, large families exist in those days.

b) Urbanization: Due to staggering industrialization, the urbanization is very slow. This failed to develop social factors which reduce the population.

c) Poverty: Poverty is a major cause for the high fertility.As, poor people have no economic assets other than their own labourers. They think that the more number of members means more number of earners.

d) Family Planning: Though the government is carrying out the idea of family planning, certain sections of people are not encouraging this idea.

e) Lower age at the marriage: The lower age at the marriage is a major cause for the high fertility. The lower age during marriage has more period of the reproduction in females.

Other factors like Education, Social and religious superstitions, Universality of marriage etc.
