The female reproductive system is made up of the internal and external sex organs that function in reproduction of new offspring. In humans, the female reproductive system is immature at birth and develops to maturity at puberty to be able to produce gametes, and to carry a foetus to full term.

The contribution of females in reproduction is more complex than males. The female reproductive system have various things to do -

  1. Reception of Sperm
  2. Delivery of sperm towards the site of fertilization
  3. Fertilization
  4. Nourishment during Gestion period
  5. Giving Birth

The Female reproductive System consist of -

  1. A pair of ovaries (singular - ovary)
  2. Fimbriae
  3. A pair of Fallopian tubes or Oviducts
  4. Uterus
  5. Cervix
  6. Vagina

From the Ovaries every month one egg leaves the ovary and comes to the uterus. Even though there are 2 ovaries only one ovary releases the egg at one time. If Fertilization occurs than ovaries do not release egg till approx. 9 months

The Fimbriae are finger-like things over the Ovary helping the egg to get into Fallopian Tube

The Fallopian Tube connects the Ovaries and Uterus. Fallopian tube is also the site of Fertilization.

The fertilized eggs comes to uterus. Forming embryo and than foetus. The Uterus is wider at top then bottom. On an empty urethra the Uterus seems to allmost lying on urethra

The cervix connects the Uterus and Vagina. The cervix is smaller than Uterus.

Vagina is an opening to the exterior. The Sperm gets inside the female body during sexual intercourse from Vagina.
