- Pheretima is a long, narrow and cylindrical shaped earthworms that belong to the Phylum Annelida.

- External fertilisation takes place in Pheretima.
- Fertilization and development occur inside the Cocoons
- The cocoons are deposited in the soil.
- When the earthwarms are in mating, exchange their sperms between them. It is called as copulation.
- After copulation, the worms are separated from each other.
- When the ovaries mature, they produce cocoons which are produced by the gland cells of Clitellum.
- Inside the cocoon, the sperm and the egg fuses.
