''Fitness of a species'' according to Darwin means reproductive fitness. All organisms after reaching reproductive age have varying degree of reproductive potential some organisms produce more offspring and some organism produce only few offspring.

Fitness is the end result of the ability to adapt and get selected by nature.
The fitness, according to Darwin, refers ultimately and only to reproductive fitness.
