It became very difficult to group some living things into one or the other, so early in the past century the two kingdoms were expanded into five kingdoms: Protista (the single-celled eukaryotes); Fungi (fungus and related organisms); Plantae (the plants); Animalia (the animals); Monera (the prokaryotes).

The group of forming living beings on the basis of similarities and differences are called classification. The branch of biology that concerned with classification is called taxonomy. Advantages are-1-the study of wide variety living organism makes easier.
2-it understanding the phylogeny.
3-it provides the knowledge about origin and genetic information among the living beings.
RH Whittaker proposed in 1969.
it was divided into-Monera,Protista, Fungi,Animalia and Plantae.
it is based on mode of nutrition, cell structure, phylogenetic relationship, and reproduction.
kingdom Monera is divided into two parts namely-Archaebacteria and Eubacteria.
