The social and economic factors that affect study choices and future career are  -

1) Economic conditions of the family- The economic conditions of the parents affect the education choices of the student. An student from ordinary family usually does not choose expensive education options like education from foreign countries, private MBBS degree and sometimes even MBA. So the options are automatically narrowed down here.

2) Community - The community in which one lives also affect the career choices. Orthodox and less advanced societies limit studies to the the gender role of the students. For examples -  education of girls is not given importance and are less educated in comparison to their male counterparts.

3) Employment opportunities - This factor diverts the choices of a large number of students. For example - during 2000-2008, the IT boom resulted in many students studying computer sciences and engineering in India.

4)  Culture - The extended family affected career choices. When the son/daughter of your uncle/ aunt studies a particular course, you might also be expected to do the same.

5) Religion - The religion prohibits and narrows don choices sometimes. fir example - Muslims do not go in liquor business and Hindus do not get into beef business mostly.
