The four positive impacts the lockdown has had on the safety and well-being of South Africans are as follows:
1. Reduction in violence due to ban on alcohol- Alcohol is a major contributor of crimes such as inter-personal violence in South Africa and so the lockdown has helped in the reduction of crime rate.
2. Reduction in robbery and theft on the streets- Presence of a huge number of military staff and police on the streets has led to the subsequent reduction of the number of people on the streets. This has in turn led to the reduction in robbery.
3. Aggravating social cohesion- People are finding the need to work together to deal with the virus threat. New partnerships are growing across all races and classes.
4. Improved public safety- Increased social cohesion has led to helping the poor and thereby improving public safety in South Africa.
