FRAGMENTATION AND REGENERATION. Fragmentation may be defined as the process of breaking up of parent animal into small parts, each of which can grow into a new complete individual. This process of asexual reproduction is found inplanaria and hydra.

Fragmentation can be stated as a process of disintegration of a parent animal so that it divides into many small parts.

Each of these parts can then develop into a completely new individual organism.

It is a prime example of asexual reproduction that can usually be found in hydra and planaria. The division of the body can be or cannot be intentional.

It may or may not happen due to environment, predators, natural or man-made reasons.
