Gandhiji used to say that religion can never be separated from politics. What he meant by religion was not any particular religion like Hinduism or Islam but moral values that form the basis of all religions. He believed that politics must be guided by ethics drawn from religions.

Gandhi considered the politics as an instrument to uplift people in  spiritual, moral and economic affairs. According to his vision an ideal society is non-violent and democratic, it must be a fine balance between social responsibility and individual freedom. He held the ideals of the human life in high regard.
