after the first world war Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi took over the leadership of the Congress he introduced the technique of non violent agitation which was called Satyagraha demand for truth. it was a non Golden struggle against the British oppression. he propagated tolerance , brotherhood, non violence and simple living.

gandhaji started satyagraha on March 12 from sabarmati ashram to dandi .on the morning of 6april gandhaji violated salt laws at randi by picking up some salt left by seawaves . he selected to attack the salt laws because they had affected all the sections of society .civil disobedience movement included boycott of liquor and defiance of salt laws
