1)first generation:1946-1959
example: ENIAC,EDVAC
2) Second generation:1959-1965
example: Honeywell 400
3) third generation:165-1971
example:PDP 11
4) Fourth generation:1971-1980
example: star1000
5)fifth generation: 1980 onwards
